Shrimping

Shrimping Charters in Hilton Head, SC

basket of shrimpCome late summer you can bet that I will be getting my nets ready to go after fresh shrimp. I absolutely love to catch and eat shrimp. Here in Hilton Head we have a great shrimp fishery. Throughout most of the year we can buy commercially caught shrimp, but in late summer and into the fall we can go out and catch our own. Shrimp is defiantly the fruit of the ocean as most every fish that swims will eat them… well I’m not a fish “yet”, but I really like them too!

How to Catch Shrimp

shrimp and fishWe have a number of different ways to catch shrimp and all involve throwing a cast net. A lot of guys like to catch shrimp over bait (called bait shrimping). This method is very effective, but for me I really like deep hole shrimping! We look for deep holes that are anywhere from 20-50 ft deep and throw a cast net out to the bottom in hopes of coming up with some saltwater gold. These shrimp range in size from medium to large… I call the large shrimp hot dogs because they are about the size of a hot dog and when they come up everyone yells “hot dog”! Shrimping is fun for the whole family. In fact my little girl loves going out on the boat with me for an afternoon of fishing and shrimping.

As far as shrimping charters, I do not offer a specific shrimping trip. What I usually do is when the shrimp are running we will hit one of the local holes at the end of a fishing trip to add few pounds of shrimp in with your fish (if you are interested in shrimping please let me know while booking so that I can bring the proper gear).
